Study On The Industry Isomorphism Of Yangtze River Delta

China’s Yangtze River Delta region is one of the most developed areas in our country, and it has most intensive population, the industry, cities and towns and wealth. After 20 years of development, the Yangtze River Delta region’s economic development has been formed a solid foundation, showing a sustained strong growth momentum. At the same time, the Yangtze River Delta region continued escalation of the industrial structure optimization, industry flourish. After entering the new century, economic globalization and regional integration are developing vigorously. Yangtze River Delta regional economic integration process has been the concern of the community. In 2007 Premier Wen Jiabao also pointed out that the first task for the Yangtze River Delta is to push forward the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure. Now the economic theory sector and governments at all levels have been made in building a consensus on the economic integration of the Yangtze River Delta. But how to achieve economic integration, there are still more different voices, including the Yangtze River Delta region with the industry structure is a focus of the problem.Most studies have pointed out that the Yangtze River Delta show serious industrial isomorphism, the conclusion that the main evidence is calculated after the provincial high coefficient of similar industries, urban industry similarity coefficients, and other indicators.On the one hand, industrial isomorphism promoted the economic prosperity within the Yangtze River Delta region; on the other hand it also had some negative effect, such as redundant construction, vicious competition, the waste of resources, and so on, which people deeply worried about. Industrial isomorphism will eventually lead to inharmonious regional economic development, result in a lot of obstacle for the Yangtze River Delta’s economic development and even become the "bottleneck." Therefore, it is urgent to solve the problem of industrial isomorphism within the Yangtze River Delta. To study the industrial isomorphism phenomenon has some theoretical value and practical meaning. It is hoped that the study can help with a correct understanding of industrial isomorphism, prevent and eliminate negative effects. Besides, it is also focused to keep the Yangtze River Delta regional industrial layout rational, to gradually optimize the industrial structure in the Yangtze River Delta region, and eventually promote regional rapid and healthy economic development.This article used empirical analysis and normative analysis, processed qualitative and quantitative research methods, and combined theory with reality. Starting from the study on the industrial status of the Yangtze River Delta region, this paper calculated the statistical data for the similarity coefficients, manufacturing industry specialization coefficient and focused on the industrial sectors. It summed up the actualities and causes of the Yangtze River Delta industrial isomorphism and the internal differences on manufacturing sector, which lie in industry-leading performance differences, difference in the degree of industry concentration, industrial level differences, and so on. However, the development of the industrial structure of the economy is to abide by certain laws. Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, they are neighbors, with the same level of economic development, so industrial structure similar to a relatively high coefficient also is not unusual.According to current characteristic of the industrial structure of Yangtze River Delta region, this paper came up with the idea of integration for industries as followed. We should set up the vertical and horizontal division of industrial layout according to various cities of industrialization level of development, and form a pattern of Shanghai as the center, Nanjing, Hangzhou, as deputy centers according to the regional function of the central cities. It’s also suggested to use the products and assets as link to cultivate formation of super-large enterprise groups in the industry as an important means for regional integration. Here it proposed trans-regional reconstruction of iron and steel, automobile, petrochemical industries and merger activities within electronic communications, modern medicine, fine chemical industry and other hi-tech enterprises through the market force in order to increase industry concentration. Last but not least, advantage of intensive education resources is supposed to be taken to promote the growth and development of high-tech industries.To sum up, by the study on the industrial isomorphism of Yangtze River Delta we hope to help avoid and overcome by its various negative effects, promote the further development, speed up optimization of the industrial structure, and provide some reference for economic development in other regional.
