Artistic And Cultural Reflections In Tourism Map Design

Map design is rarely involved in graphic design, not only because of its non-mainstream, but also cartography has long since been regarded as a technology instead an art making. Mapping and charting used to be done by specialized professions, and so Art design does not take sides. But the consequences of this result is that the map design in today’s society is lack of artistic design, and lack of cultural expression. Moreover, among the species of the map, tourist maps is an extremely important type. With the development of modern tourism, tourist map has more than just travel affiliate products, but also become an important means to promote tourism development and promotion of tourist travel experience.At the same time, as the crystallization of science and art, tourist map reflects the degree of the development of a regional tourism culture. This kind of qualities has been realized and evaluated by the audience, that is, the tourists. This awareness attributes to a region’s economic income and cultural image which can cause a chain reaction to the social development. So the art design elements applied into the map design are important modification and activation of science in which art is the map design should explore.How to integrate art and culture in the tourist map, which in turn will merge humanistic spirit into the connections between people and space, is the problem that this paper will focus on. This article will try to analysis the problem of designing tourist map in which the process lack cultural and artistic concern. To think about how to operation art design of tourist map, and to refine art in the design of map elements,this article expects to improve map design practitioners and graphic designers, of course, which is expected to lead to the final result that is the tourist map beyond the meaning of tools and rise to the art of cultural products.
