Phenol is an important basic organic chemical raw material in chemical industry, which is mainly used to produce phenolic resin, caprolactam and bisphenol A, etc. Acetone is an important organic chemical raw material, which is mainly used to produce methyl methacrylate (MMA), A fat methyl isobutyl ketone/alcohol (MIBK/MIBC) and bisphenol A, etc. In recent years, the need of phenol increased 30%and acetone increased 13%in China. With the downstream products of bisphenol A and polycarbonate capacity continue to expand, phenol acetone product demands exceeds supply. Based on current phenol acetone production capacity and market demand, we can see them can’t meet the needs of the market in the following two years.It will be very difficult to meet the market demands of phenol and acetone in the next few years while there will be a high profit of producing phenol and all equipments are all operated with full capacity. Therefore, it will be very urgent to restructure and expend the devices used to produce phenol and acetone in dyestuff factory.In this paper the feasibility of phenol reconstruction was studied, according to the domestic and international market analysis and the supply situation of main raw material benzene and propylene, and in combination with the long term development plan of Jilin Petrochemical Company. The project of Bisphenol A and polycarbonate was planned and constructed, realizing integration of upstream and downstream device, prolonging industry chain of phenol acetone, realizing benefit maximization. Adhering to the principle of the size of the economy, the scale expansion of phenol acetone device was determined for 370,000 tons per year, newly increased production capacity was 250,000 tons per year. Annual operating time was 8,000 hours. High purity phenol and acetone product was produced with benzene and propylene and isopropyl benzene method phenol craft. Phenol and acetone products can satisfy the quality requirements of producing poly carbon levels of bisphenol A.In this Paper the feasibility of the Project through analyses of the Phenol/acetone Market, the technology and the economical appraisal was discussed. The technology, processes and plant scale of the project was demonstrated, and according with the real resource situation of the corporation. The advanced benzene and propylene and isopropyl benzene method was adopted in the project. It is a mature technology. The sources of raw material are stable in long time. Resource and energy wastage is very lower. And there are a batch of experienced professional technology personnel. According with the development trend of phenol/acetone production. The reliability, energy saving and environment conservation of the project was improved. The project’s financial profitability under the state current financial system and the price system was analysed. Technical and economic analysis showed that economic benefit and the ability against economic risk will be better. It was demonstrated that the 370,000 MTPA Phenol/Acetone Revamp & Expansion Project was advanced and reliable technology, reasonable economy, and according with the state industry policy. It was suggested for the corporation to carry out the project soon.
