Casting technique design is the key process in casting production, and with thedevelopment of computer technology, three-dimensional casting technique CAD system iswidely used in foundry industry. And the practical use of casting technique CAD s ystemclaims that the CAD system need to be intelligentized, which is the development trend ofcasting technique CAD system.Riser design is quite important in casting technique designprocess, and one of the most important in this process is to calculate the partial modulus ofa casting. In traditional casting technique designing, designers usually get the partialmodulus through incising the castings into different parts, and the operation process istedious, and experience is highly valued, which does not matches the development ofcasting technique CAD system.According to the above situations, this research conducts requirements analysis, anddevelops an intelligent casting riser system based on UG NX7.5software, usingMicrosoft Visual2010and UG/Open as tools. The system mainly consists of the followingmodules: exacting the casting information, getting the modulus of casting hot spots,adding risers, and riser parameter modification. The getting the modulus of casting hotspots module includes not only traditional method of incising castings, but also two othermethods to calculate the partial hot spots in castings: fast calculation of hot spots based onsurface indentation algorithm, calculation of hot spots using volume solidification methodbased on InteCast CAE numerical simulation, and these methods can provide theinformation about hot spots, which can provide more accurate data for casting design. Theadding risers module uses parametric modeling to establish standard riser library, and alsoestablish the standard parameter database for risers.This thesis introduces the system designing, development technology and theoreticalfoundation of intelligent riser technique CAD system, and introduces the application of thesystem with practical cases. The system turns out to be effective in assisting designing andincreasing designing efficiency, thus improving the production efficiency.
