With the rapid development of the end-of-life vehicle(ELV) recycling industries, comes the greater demand for after-treatment equipment car baler from enterprises. The current domestic design of car baler is mainly based on experience, without considering structure optimization or lightweight design. Thus, the product is usually designed with problems like unreasonable structural design and excessive weigh. This research project is from the cooperation project with Jiangsu Hua Hong Technology Co. Ltd, aims to reduce weight and fuel consumption of car baler, save resources and energy by structure analyzing and optimizing.This paper takes the HJB-250 car baler as an example, utilizing finite element analysis of static characteristics analysis technology for it, and on the basis the structure optimization research of the car baler to reduce its weight is carried on. The main contents are as follows:Firstly, using SIEMENS NX to complete the construction of three-dimensional model based on the structure of the machine model of two-dimensional drawings, to provide the necessary conditions for building finite element model. Secondly, the finite element model of the important parts of car baler has been built, by the finite element intension analysis of the model in more or one conditions, the displacement and the stress of the key points have been got, which make us know the distribution of the stress and the transmogrification of the parts. Thirdly, to satisfy the intension design request and to decrease the weight of the car baler as much as possible, the improved parts has been to shape and size optimized by the structure optimization theory and method. Finally, the contrast of the character change of the previous parts and the optimized parts is got and the influence on the car baler has been studied.The results show that not only the strength and stiffness of the optimized components have varying degrees of increase, but also the weight of baler machine is reduced by 6 t(approximately 14.3% self-weight), and the material is saved by the finite element analysis and design optimization of car-balers. So the results have great value in practical application.
