Comprehensive mud logging technology plays an increasingly important role in the process of oil and gas exploration and development, especially for long-distant directional well, multi-lateral well and ultral deep well. As the core part of comprehensive mud logging unit, the data acquisition system can acquisite data of geology, engineering, drilling fluid and gas continuously. But the current situation is that both at home and abroad there are a great number kinds of comprehensive mud logging instruments, the function of data acquisition system of which are roughly same with different hardwares, data types, data processing methods, transmitting protocols. So each kind of data acquisition hardware must function with its corresponding software.In order to meet the standard requirements and reduce the investment of mud logging equipment manufacturing and upgrading, a new data acquisition system is put forward. This research analyzes the basic principle and architecture of data acquisition systems, study the function of each modules of data acquision system and made further functional improvements. In combination with the requirement of signal acquisition and transmission for wellsite logging sensor, a universal data acquisition system is proposed. Additionally, RS485, Controller Area Network(CAN bus) and wireless network transmission technology are integrated, with corresponding software developed which can realize data sharing that comply with Wellsite Information Transfer Specification(WITS).The data acquisition system has completed the overall test both in laboratory and drilling wellsite. The testing result shows that the new comprehensive mud logging data acquisition system have a high performance in acquisiting and processing both analog and digital signal for engineering, drilling fluid parameters and gas parameters. Not only improve the quality of data, but also can be compatible with the previous generations of data acquisition hardwares so as to reduce a large amount of investment for equipment upgrading. At the same time, the difficulty regarding to training and logistics and other similar problems due to the complexity of comprehensive mud logging data acquisition system can be solved. This system has obtained very good result in the application in many domestic oil fields. In the drilling process, this data acquisition system can accurately measure all necessary parameter and detect any abnormal invent timely which can help improve drilling efficency and save the cost of exploration and development investment. Therefore the data acquisition system of comprehensive mud logging has a broad prospect of application in drilling engineering.
