Natural cotton fiber has multilayer and multi-porous structures consisting of 30~250 ? diameter fibrillars, fibrils and giant fibrillars in parallel and spiral shape. The multi-porous structures endow more excellent moisture absorption and perspiration performances for cotton fabric used to made yarn and fabric texture further. However, at the same time, they lead to cotton fabrics easy to mildew and yellow so that severely limiting the natural cotton fiber is widely used in the field of textile and apparel. Therefore, how to effectively improve the multilayer and multi-porous structures of cotton fabric, has become a hot and important topic in cotton fabric development and functional textile. In this paper, physical coating and phase separation technique, fiber surface grafting and chemical polymerization were used to modified the cotton fabric surface and prepared polymer films in the multilayer and multi-porous cotton fabric surfaces. The obtained cotton fabric composites have a good air permeability, moisture permeability and drilling pile performance. The main contents are as follows:Through the physics coating process and phase separation technique, porous polyurethane(PU) films was prepared on the surface of cotton fabric. Porous structures ensuring the composites have air permeability and moisture permeability.Contact angle experiments showed that the PU composite cotton fabric has high hydrophobic properties. Whereas, because the PU film and cotton fabric belongs to physical interactions, in under the action of external mechanical forces, PU films were easy to fall off and lead to the fabric surface became rough.Poly(methyl acrylic hydroxylethylester)(PHEMA) films covalented on cotton fiber surfaces was prepared by grafting double bonds using maleic anhydride(MAH)and chemical polymerization on cellulose surfaces. The results showed that the PHEMA can be effective covering the surface and pore of the fabric, yarn and fiber, good drilling pile. The friction wear resistance by 1500 times showed that the cotton fabric composite has a good durability. And compound fabric color, surface hydrophilicity is only slightly decreased.A layer of poly(methyl acrylic hydroxylethyl/ butyl methacrylate)(HEMA)/(BMA) copolymers on the surface of cotton fabric were prepared by themethod of co-polymerization. The results showed that by adjusting the proportion of HEMA/BMA, mastoid morphology similar to lotus leaf surface structures can be formed on the surface of cotton fabric. Water contact angle testing showed that the surface hydrophobicity was as high as 129 o, even 105 o after 15 min.
