Song Dynasty is a important period in our history for the seated posture habit changing from sitting on the floor to sitting on the pedal, so research to the seats of Song Dynasty would helps to not only knowing the profound impacts by the changing, but also enhancing the history and culture of furnitures. A lot of talented scholars appeared in Song Dynasty which was a rational society, the concise, tranquil, elegant life style running after by the scholars had produced significant effects on the Song Dynasty seats. The furnitures of Ming Dynasty having its unique times style is inheriting to Song Dynasty. At now most people interest on the furnitures of Ming Dynasty,Studying the Song Dynasty seats is actually for the radically reform.But as a long time ago,very few seats of Song Dynasty exists now,the studying about these seats mostly using the Song Dynasty paitings.There are three armchairs in the painter "Eighteen Scholars" which was done by anonymous painter in Song Dynasty.This thesis is focused on the relationship between the armchairs of Song Dynasty and the seats of Ming Dynasty by studying the Song Dynasty painters,as the painter "Eighteen Scholars".The thesis is divided into five parts.Part one clears the basic concept of armchair and the process of inheritance about armchair in our history,also which place armchair ranking in history. Part two presents the seats in the painters of Song Dynasty and the overview of furnitures over Song Dynasty. Part three is not only discussing the period style and the humanity spirit of the painter "Eighteen Scholars",but also dwells upon the characteristics such as three armchairs form, handicraft in the painter. Part four analyzes the development facts and the current situation about chairs of Ming Dynasty. And Part five what comparing the armchair in the painter "eighteen scholars " with the seat of Ming Dynasty,details the behaviours of inheriting and abandoning,different cultural background and time style between two dynasties.
