With decreasing of high quality mineral resources both at home and abroad, more and more difficult-concentrate mineral resources has been getting exploitation and utilization. Meanwhile more and more fine minerals are produced which need fine grinding. In the process of fine grinding, traditional ball mill is some of low technology index, high energy consumption thus research and development large scale efficient fine grinding equipment has become a development trend of the mineral beneficiation industry. Then the vertical screw stirred mill gradually become one of the main fine grinding equipments of metal mines for its high efficiency and energy saving.But for the vertical screw stirred mill, not any standard theory of calculation its torque during start-up has been formed, and start technology is one of the key technologies in the application of large vertical screw stirred mill. Therefore based on systematic review on the research status and theory of the stretched ball mill, Isa mill, tower mill, the vertical screw stirred mill, the paper developed its research work around the vertical screw stirred mill speed, steel ball filling amount, pitch of agitator and other parameters then got conclusion by theoretical calculation, numerical simulation analysis and experimental study. It contains following content:The basic structure and working principle of the vertical screw stirred mill, the paper pointed out that its starting torque is mainly composed of inertia moment and friction moment, then obtained the calculation formula for the torque of agitator in starting process.Using Matlab simulation software, the simulation model of the three-phase asynchronous motor and the vertical screw stirred mill simulation model was established, analyzed the simulation starting torque and loading torque at various working parameters of the mill, obtained the variation law of the starting torque and the relationship between the peak torque and load torque. On the basis of constructing test platform of vertical screw agitating mill torque, measured and analyzed the change law of the loading torques at different stirrer pitch, steel ball filling ratio, and agitator speed. Based on load torque, studied the influence rules of the change of steel ball filling ratio and agitator pitch on the starting torque of mill. As a result, the paper indicated that during start-up reducing ball filling amount and properly increasing the spiral agitator pitch can effectively reduce peak value of the starting torque.
