With the increasing depletion of water resources around the world, as with as increasing environmental pollution, government pay more attention to sewage treatment. However, there are still many problems existing from sewage treatment projects in our country, and treatment efficiency in many of the old sewage treatment plants have been far less than the new environmental requirements, meanwhile the level of automation is very low, interactive interface look unfriendly, and online monitoring facilities is incomplete, therefore, to achieve remote monitoring system in sewage treatment plants will be the focus of future research.This paper discuss the current status of the development of the popular wastewater treatment processes and the remote monitoring system of wastewater treatment plants, relying on practical project, on the background of a city municipal sewage treatment plant, aiming at technological characteristic of the wastewater treatment plant, combining the actual condition of the plant and environmental requirement, design the plant remote monitoring system based on serial server.This paper introduce the design principles, design requirement and design solution of the system from automatic control system, host monitoring system and online monitoring system three aspects in turn, as well as the implementation of the system. Build the entire automation network for the plant, perfect PLC control program for the plant, develop humanized interactive interface, use serial server to transpond online monitoring data, utilize Visual C#.Net to develop online monitoring data acquisition communication server program, use database to save process data, have the function of historical trend curve, report and fault alarm, which realize equipment remote control and data monitoring from the production process of the plant.After system debugging, the system has been put into operating, practice shows that the system is stable and reliable, not only improve the efficiency of the operator, but also effluent quality meet the national emission standards.
