Currently, coal constitutes two thirds of energy resources consumed in China. There are over 50 billion tons of proven coal reserves in Guizhou Province, while the estimated reserves are more than 200 billion tons. In 2013, Guizhou produced 200 million tons of coal, ranking number four in China. As a South-China province rich in energy resources, its energy industry has been the top pillar industry of the provincial economy for eight consecutive years. Due to the complex geological occurrence of coal seam in this region, coal mines in Guizhou are numerous in number and often small in scale, of which 70 percent are gassy mines or coal and gas outburst mines. As a result, the death toll caused by coal mining accidents has for years been the highest among all the provinces.Bijie City, located in the Southwest of China, has quite abundant reserves of coal.According to the information provided by the Department of Land and Resources of Guizhou Province, by the end of 2012, the registered coal deposit across the city has reached 19.383 billion tons, accounting for 40.13 percent of all registered coal reserves in Guizhou. With the ever-increasing coal output, mine gas accidents, especially coal and gas outbursts as well as gas explosions have posed serious threats to the safety and production of coal mines. Gas drainage is the major practice taken in China to control gas and prevent accidents in coal mining industry. Therefore, further study on gas drainage techniques will largely reduce the number of mine gas accidents.Given the aforementioned background, this thesis studies the actual conditions of Xinfeng Coal Mine. By combining field research with theoretical exploration to collect data and make analysis, it thoroughly discusses topics ranging from mine gas occurrence and level to prediction of mine gas emission rate. What is more, this thesis compressively analyzes a variety of gas drainage techniques.Based on the analysis and the actual conditions of Xinfeng Coal Mine as well as the national specifications and regulations of coal mining industry, it suggests gas drainage practices suitable for Xinfeng Coal Mine, which has proven to be effective and thus guaranteed the safety of mine face. This thesis is of great significance to the gas drainage and gas control practices of Xinfeng Coal Mine in Lushan Town Weining Couty and also provides guidance for similar coal mines.
