With the development of science and technology, changes of manufacturing technology and the real needs of the life, modern development of CNC machine is developing in the direction of the high speed, high efficiency, high precision, high reliability and complex process in industry. More and more components processing are not satisfied by consumers only X axis 、Y axis、Z axis linkage machine tools, but also require B axis and U axis linkage for combined processing. NC facing and boring head is a kind of machine tool accessories, which has U axis function. Through the combined method of the calculation and finite element analysis, do in-depth research and analysis on the transmission principle of NC facing and boring head, static and dynamic characteristics of the rotating body, and the rotary balance performance,the optimization of its structure, provides further study direction and the basis. The contents and conclusions of this study are as follows:(1) Analysis of the structure and the transmission of NC facing and boring head principle, the paper introduces the principle of planetary gear differential system to eliminate the influence of horizontal rotating disk rotation on the feeding, summed up the characteristics of the UT5 NC facing and boring head.(2) Static analysis on the rotation of facing and boring head by the method of the finite element simulation and the maximum operating speed rotating body in the whole maximum deformation is 18.716 m, the maximum stress is 19.013 Mpa, meet the design requirements of the facing and boring nead. At the same time, find the weak link of the structure of rotary body for further structural optimization design.(3) make a dynamic analysis on the rotation body. mainly has carried on the modal analysis and harmonic response analysis. Modal analysis obtained the rotation body system natural frequency. On the basis,each of the critical speeds are obtained, the first critical speed is 9810r/min, greater than highest speed 315r/min of the rotation body system, so the facing and boring head avoid resonance in the actual work effectively. The harmonic response analysis, the vibration frequency is in the range of milling force, the displacement response curve of frequency, obtained in the 870 Hz, six mode, change the maximum displacement, to pave the way for the further structural optimization design.(4) Research on balance performance of the facing and boring head, according to the structure of the rotation body and installation characteristics, design the balance block with the uniform standard, by changing the method of mass distribution, where appropriate in general, as far as possible to reduce the imbalance in the rotary body, and through the test cutting experiment verifies the feasibility.(5) Structure optimization design of NC facing and boring head with rotating body. On the basis of using the finite element software in combination with static and dynamic characteristics analysis, Put forward to strength as constraint conditions, to reduce the weight of the target, the topology optimization scheme of rotary body, under the condition of a certain strength, stiffness, natural frequency, the paper get strain and weight relationship with them, and finally determine the best optimization,by adjusting the position of the wall, the thickness change from 140 mm to 136 mm, ribs thickness change from 20 mm to 18 mm, the modified rotation body weight is 82.1Kg to 77.4Kg, loss 5.7%. And the rotation body still maintain a good stiffness and strength, fully meet the processing requirements.
