Disc refiners are used in refining and beating widely now. Refining plate is a key unit of a disc refiner. At present, large disc refiners in our country rely mainly on imports.there are still some problems such as great energy consumption of disc refiners and the short service lives of the plates. So it is necessary to deeply study the refining process and the design theory and method on disc refiner plates.The paper firstly describes the development of disc refiners.Summarizing the study trends of the design theory and method on disc refiner plates in the world. Introducing the research activities of computer simulation on equipments relate to disc refiners, the study task and significance of the paper have been explained on the basis of above.By introducing the principle of refining, the equation of refining energy consumption, the study trends of refining and beating mechanism,the choices and its Affecting factors of plate parameters, which aims to offer foundation for the design of plate parameters and the computer simulation on disc refiners.Then the computer simulation on disc refiners had been studied. The computational fluid dynamics models in refining zone had been built which would be used for refining simulation with the FLUENT, by single factor analysis method, studying the influencing rule of the bar width, groove width, height of teeth and grinding angles to the pressure,shear force,frictional force on rotor though changing the plate parameters.Finaly, the design process of refiner plates can be make base on the study above, this paper combines specific requirements and refining requirements in different process,the first plate and the second plate have been designed,both of them have the same size with 1500 millimeters in diameter,and estimating the refining power.It is the specific application example of the design theory and method on disc refiner plates.This paper deeply studys the computing methods of refining effective power and the choice of plate parameters. The computational fluid dynamics models in refining zone have been simulated by the FLUENT. The design process of refiner plates has been made on the basis of above. The work is much of importance to the study and design on disc refiners, and it has some application value to the design of plates.
