Disc refiner is widely used pulp and paper making equipment in paper industry,and its performance determines the pulp quality,efficiency,energy consumption of refining,etc.Also,the refiner plate is the core component of disc refiner,and its design and selection determine performance of disc refiner.The Refining Intensity Theory which widely used in the analysis and control of refiner is one of the most important characterization of refining mechanism,and it will improve the quality and efficiency of refining and reduce refining energy if the Refining Intensity Theory is applied in the design and selection of refiner plate.Firstly,this paper introduces the existing refiner machines' structure and operating principle,and emphasizes the plate pattern and material.The force and morphological changes of fiber in refining process is summarized.Meanwhile,analyze and compare the formulae and parameters of the Specific Edge Load Theory,C-Factor Theory and other theories.On this basis,the main content and objectives were proposed.Secondly,this paper analyzes the general formula and the four parts of refining energy consumption based on the Similarity Theory and similarity criterion.According to the stress situation of pulp in refining region,analyze the calculation formula of refining flow,and the dimensional analysis method were used to derive the dimensional formula of pulp flow and the effective refining power.The estimation formulae of three independent dimensions including pulp consistency,speed,and outer diameter of the plate are obtained by substituting experimental data into formulae.By comparing the experimental data,the relationshipship between plate patterns,operating conditions and the refining intensity was analyzed,and the relationshipship between the refining intensity and the quality of pulp was further analyzed.Finally,combining with the engineering experience of plate design,the design and selection method of plate was proposed based on the Refining Intensity Theory,and the selection procedure and the relevant analysis of advantages by using Fine-bar plates were presented.Two disc refiner plate's selection and estimation softwares were made by utilizing MATLAB and MS Visual Studio software,and then advantages and disadvantages of two softwares were evaluated and compared.This paper proposed the selection method of disc refiner plate and compiled the estimation softwares studied on refining mechanism and the Refining Intensity Theory.The work of this paper quantifies the analysis and selection method of plate design which improve the quality and efficiency of refining and reduce refining energy.
