A reactive cationic waterborne polyurethane fixing agent was synthesized by polymerizing gradually in this subject. Isophorone diisocyanate ester (IPDI), polyethylene glycol (PEG) were selected as main monomers, homemade quaternary ammonium as the chain extender agent, and sodium bisulfite was used to cap unreacted isocyanate group (-NCO), finally "self-emulsifying method" were applied, then a kind of waterborne polyurethane emulsion was synthesized. The product was able to give good wet fastness to the color cotton fabric.During the synthesis of the quaternary ammonium salts, the factors including the ratio of the tertiary alcohol amine with epichlorohydrin, choice of solvent, and the temperature were researched by the impact on the synthesized product. And more intuitive description of the quaternary ammonium salts’role on the fiber was dye adsorption. In the synthesis of waterborne polyurethane fixing agent, the R-value of the isocyanate index (-NCO/-OH), the amount of a quaternary ammonium salt chain extender, pre-polymerization reaction temperature and time, and other factors were analysed by the FI-IR infrared spectra, TGA, emulsion viscosity, particle size, color fixing effect to optimize the synthesis conditions. In the color fixing finishing, the dosage of the agent, the method of fixing, the cure temperature and time and other factors were discussed by the soaping and rubbing fastness standards. The experimental results show that the performance of the synthetic polyurethane emulsion was stable and when it was used as a color fixing agent, the soaping fastness and rubbing fastness could be improved and better wash ability was possessed by the cotton fabric.
