Application Of Cleaner Production Audit In Chemical Industry

Cleaner Production steadily applied the preventive environmental strategy into the whole process of production. It can improve the management and technology, reducing contaminant through raising the utilization rate of energy resources. The newly revised Cleaner Production Promotion Law stipulates the audit scope of mandatory Cleaner Production. And the chemical enterprise, as typical example of "pollutants discharge exceed the national and local discharge standards" or "using toxic and harmful raw materials for production or discharge poisonous and harmful substances during the production process", is listed in the audit scope of mandatory Cleaner Production.Chemical industry plays an important role in the development of our national economy, which also causes serious pollution and high material and energy consumption. These negative effects have seriously restricted the sustainable development of chemical industry. As a whole preventive environmental strategy, Cleaner Production is an effective means for enterprises to achieve sustainable development. The implementation of Cleaner Production in chemical enterprises requires not only financial and human investment, but also the corresponding cleaner production audit methods and theoretical guidance.In this thesis, the cleaner production auditing of a certain chemical industry was researched on the base of case study to grope the application of the cleaner production audit in chemical enterprises, After the site investigation and research in this enterprise, it has been recognized that the production lines of Polyvinyl chloride paste resin (PVC) and caustic soda production were alternatives of cleaner production audit emphasis. The two products were compared in terms of output value, water consumption, energy consumption and waste production. Eventually the PVC production line was determined as the focus of the audit as it had greater cleaner production potential. This thesis analyzed the cause of waste during the production through establishing material balance and water balance of PVC. Then in view of these reasons, it put forward targeted cleaner production programmes and analyzed the feasibility of the two middle and high cost projects. Finally, after the implementation of the program, this enterprise’s fresh water consumption, power consumption, steam consumption and wastewater quantity per ton all achieved the short-term goals, and tremendous economic and environmental benefits have been achieved.In order to explore how to apply cleaner production in the chemical industry, achieving the goals of "energy saving, consumption reducing, pollution decreasing and benefit increasing", this thesis combined the theoretical knowledge and practical application of cleaner production, analyzing the key points of cleaner production audit in the chemical industry, researching on the cleaner production audit process of the specific chemical enterprise, which provides a reference and basis for the future to carry out cleaner production auditing in chemical industry.
