Based on the CO shift unit process, the mathematical models of CO shift unit are developed for the opposed multi-burner (OMB) coal-water slurry (CWS) gasification process and the GSP pulverized coal gasification process by Aspen Plus. The simulation results show good agreement with the industrial data which indicates the rationality of the simplification of the CO shift model. The water-gas ratio of the syngas from coal gasification unit is an important factor affecting the CO shift unit. The influence of the water-gas ratio for the steam output is analyzed by calculating the thermal load of the heat exchanger of the CO shift unit. This model can be used as a basis for system analysis and optimizing, and can also provide support for the engineering design, process analysis and new process development. The problem of CO shift unit in operation and the solution to the problem are discussed in this work. The process and equipment structure improvement of the CO shift unit for the new coal-to-liquids (CTL) project is proposed in this work. The comprehensive energy consumption, from gasification unit to CO shift unit, is analyzed. The energy consumption is 454.88kgce/(1000Nm3 shift gas) for the process based on the OMB CWS gasification, and 503.57kgce/(1000Nm3 shift gas) for the process based on GSP pulverized coal gasification. The analysis of the comprehensive energy consumption points a new way for the rational energy utilization and energy saving.
