In this paper, we design and implement the underground mobile video surveillance system based on wireless Mesh network to satisfy the significant demand for underground emergency communication. This system is an important part of the underground disaster relief communication system, which not only provides security safeguard for coal production, but also carries out the rescue work timely when the accident happenes.According to the network requirement of the underground mobile video surveillance, firstly, this paper analyzes the current situation and the topology structure of wireless Mesh network and summarizes the characteristics and advantages of wireless Mesh network. Then, the network equipment of wireless Mesh network is analyzed and selected. Finally, the hybrid structure of wireless Mesh network is chosed as the hosted network of the underground wireless terminal. Based on these analyses, this paper designs the network structure and the logical structure of the underground communication system for emergency disaster relief.The underground mobile video monitoring system running on the wireless Mesh network mainly consists of two parts. One part is the video interaction between the command center and the rescue workers. The video images captured by portable wireless video cameras for rescue workers are transmitted by this part to the ground command system through the Mesh network. Then the command center will make judgments and decisions based on the video footages. At the same time, the command center can also transfer some instructions to modify the parameters of the cameras. Another part is the video interaction between the underground rescue workers. This paper designs and implements the Android client video monitoring system by combining the characteristics of Android mobile intelligent terminal and Mesh network. The Android client video monitoring system calls third-party SDK to achieve real-time video communication between the rescue personnels, which strengthens the cooperation between the rescue personnels and improves the rescue efficiency.This paper carries out a comprehensive test of the entire underground mobile video surveillance system. Firstly, the simulation tests were carried out in the Grande Canale, which lays the foundation for the underground test. Then the performance of wireless Mesh network and the function of video monitoring software of command center were tested in Yulin coal mine of Shanxi, and the test results were statistically analyzed. Finally, the functional tests of the Android client video monitoring software were carried out in the campus environment. The results show that the underground mobile video surveillance system based on wireless Mesh network can not only provide a powerful video surveillance for the command center but also achieve a video call between the underground rescue workers, which provides a strong guarantee for the safety production and emergency rescue relief in coal mine.
