Disc refiner, conical refiner and cylindrical refiner are widely using in papermaking industry of domestic and international. Each of them has different advantages and disadvantages. Most of disc refiner and exist these problems of the disc diameter is large, high energy consumption, the axial force is large and the discs are easy to touch, and so on. The conical refiners also have the problem, which is axial force is large, and so on. To solve these problems, the paper designed and researched a kind of new type conical refiner.Firstly, the paper analyzed the structure and performance of all kinds of pulping machines, and summarized their advantages and disadvantages.Then the paper determined the design scheme of new type conical refiner base on summarizing the research of disc refiner and conical refiner, and designed the overall plan of new type conical refiner using Auto-CAD and Pro/E software. Then these contents were researched in the paper, which include the structure of shaft, the choice of conical rotor taper, the mechanism of plate gap adjusting, the structure of grinding chamber and the manipulator. And then these works were done on new type conical refiner in the paper, which include 3D modeling, motion simulation and solid assembly, interference check.Finally, the key parts of new type conical refiner are analyzed and improved by finite element analysis in the paper. First of all, the shaft was analyzed by using the finite element method based on ANSYS and CREO/Simulate software. Then so were done these key parts so that they meet the requirements of strength and stiffness, which mainly includes the grinding chamber, hinged rotor disassembly manipulator, the fixed disk support and the grinding chamber support etc.This paper mainly researched the design of a new type conical refiner. This refiner mainly has these structures, which include back-to-back conical turntable, cantilever axial floating shaft, grinding gap adjustment mechanism, and so on. In theory it can have these advantages, which including shaft axial force balance, energy saving. Through the computer simulation and the theoretical analysis, new type conical refiner can meet the requirements of rigidity and strength. The work of this paper has certain significance to the design and research of grinding machines.
