The main chemical constituents of magnesite is MgCO3, an important natural containing magnesium minerals, the main source is industrial magnesium, with high temperature resistant properties, an important raw material for industrial refractory materials, mainly used in metallurgy industry furnaces lining plate and the refractory brick. Magnesite is one of the advantages of China’s mineral resources in the world.Through flotation testing of magnesite and dolomite single mineral, the influence of calcium ion and magnesium on the flotation of magnesite and dolomite in sodium oleate system had been studied. The results show that the inhibition of magnesite and dolomite is enhanced with the addition of calcium and magnesium ion the inhibition of magnesite and dolomite is enhanced by sodium silicate with the addition of calcium and magnesium ion, the inhibition of magnesite and dolomite is enhanced by sodium hexametaphosphate with the addition of calcium and magnesium ion in weak alkaline environment,under the condition of strong alkaline sodium hexametaphosphate make activation on dolomite. Through the solution chemical calculation and analysis, the results show that the solution existence form of calcium and magnesium ion is the important factor that affect the mineral flotability.Aiming at the situation of some underused low‐grade magnesite in liaoning province which is analyzed by the technological mineralogy, the result shows that SiO2 content of ore is 2.45%, grade of MgO(IL=0) is 92.57%,the main valuable mineral ore is magnesite, gangue mineral are quartz, talcum, dolomite, brucite, hematite, chlorite, etc. Index of yield of 73.74%, MgO grade of 97.81% and SiO2 grade of 97.81% was achieved by the process of one roughing‐two cleaning flotation.Finalize the process of flotation combined with acid leaching can be a very good method of desilication and decalcification from magnesite.
