With the development of economy and the advancement of urbanization, the urban river problems become more and more prominent. A large number of domestic sewage and industrial waste water flows directly into the river, which greatly affect the play of river flood controlling, irrigation and ecological functions, but even more serious is that threatening local people’s production and living water security. Thus, exploring the pollution characterization of urban river is that one of the main tasks to improve the urban water environment.In this paper, through the survey of the environment and water quality around Yangzhou Huaisi River, and according to the pollution status of Huaisi River, the pollution status of watershed was analyzed and evaluated. On this basis, water pollutant model was established, and the pollution control measures were discussed in the end. The main results were as follows:(1)The water quality of Huaisi River was seriously polluted, the main sources of pollution were municipal sewage and sewage. The result shows that:the annual emission of sewage was about 3.285million tons, which included 374,000tons industrial waste water and 2.911million tons domestic sewage, that accounted for 11.4%and 88.6%respectively.The annual emission of COD was about 740.7tons,the day emission of sewage, COD, ammonia and TP were 9000tons,2.04tons,0.28tons and 0.024tons,respectively.(2)The water quality in Huaisi river was subjected to the inferior fifth grade, the phenomenon of eutrophication in water was serious. The concentration of CODMn、TN and TP in water were greatly influenced by spatial variation, while the concentration of heavy metals was little influenced.The time affection of various pollution was mainly performed in emissions and rainfall. The result shows that:the variation of CODMn, TN and TP were mainly exhibited the case that the import and export had low concentration of pollutants, while the intermediate had high concentration. In addition, the concentration of pollutants were higher in the industrial zones and residential intensive places. From upstream to downstream, the concentrations of heavy metals had no significant variation, but the concentrations of heavy metals was significantly higher in the vicinity of heavy industry than other water bodies. When there was fresh water available, the pollutants concentrations declined apparent.(3)The nutrients distribution of sediment at each sampling point in Huaisi River had larger randomness,and the heavy metal was seriously polluted. The result shows that:the concentration of heavy metals in sediment was significantly higher than other pollutants, the heavy metal pollution index of sediment at each sampling point was between 7.28-13.16,which were heavily polluted, the most polluted element in sediment was Cd,while the little polluted element was Ni.(4)The pollutant concentration at different times, different sections in Huaisi River was simulated by the one-dimensional numerical model, the results of which were in good agreement with the measured values, indicating that this method to simulate the water quality in Huaisi River was effective. Using this method to analyze the effect of remediation at different times, which showed that it would achieve significant effect by initial remediation in Huaisi River.(5)In view of the characteristics of the heavy pollutant load and the poor self-purification ability in Huaisi River, remediation measures were proposed by two parts of water pollution controlling and sediment pollution controlling:Water pollution controlling was made up of the management of pollution source, the strengthen of self-purification and water replenishment and management; sediment pollution controlling was designed to improve the sediment situation by sediment dredging in Huaisi River.
