With the development of oil field and the constant innovation of technology, hydro-cyclones have been successfully used in the down-hole oil-water separation as a new kind of separation equipment and archived certain success. But in some selected wells, separation effects of hydro-cyclone are restricted due to the influence of associated gas in the down-hole. So this paper is aimed at studying the problem mentioned above.First of all, this paper has researched three kinds of different structures of hydro-cyclone, the single cone, the three curves type and the new type of spiral flow channel with inverted cone. The separation characteristics of hydro-cyclone have been studied under the condition of gas bearing. The CFD numerical simulation software has been used to simulate and analyze the range of gas content in the range of 0.1% to 10%, analyzing the velocity field, pressure field distribution and separation effect in different gas bearing conditions. By comparing the simulation results, the adaptability of the hydro-cyclone under different conditions of gas has been evaluated, and the results show that the new spiral flow channel inverted cone hydro-cyclone has the strongest adaptability to the gas.Secondly, the adaptability of the hydro-cyclone has been studied under different conditions of gas, finding that the separation performance of the hydro-cyclone decreases obviously with the increase of gas flowing rate and the separation efficiency decreases significantly when the gas flowing rate reaches to 1%, in which situation necessary measures should be taken to remove gas. Besides, we have concluded that the separation performance reaches best when the gas flow rate is 4m3/s while the split ratio is 20%.Experimental study on the adaptability of cyclone containing gas is mainly based on the simulation by changing the inlet air content, inlet flow rate, split ratio and other parameters. The experiment results and the simulation results are uniform, verifying the correctness of the simulation.
