Liquid disperse dye is a kind of the commercial disperse dye, which is different from the traditional pulverous disperse dye. The liquid disperse dye can save energy by getting rid of the process of spraying and drying. It can reduce dust pollution of the powder disperse dye when it is produced and carried, and it can decrease the dosage of the dispersants and increase the using percent of disperse dye. The liquid disperse dye can increase the additional value of disperse dyes at the same time, and it could also contribute to drive the printing and dyeing industry with automation. It is in line with the trends of transformation and upgrading in the printing and dyeing industry. So it has broad application prospects.The conditions of milling process were optimized by testing the particle diameter,particles distribution index and diffusivity of disperse orange 30 affer milled. The optimized parameters were that the rotating speed of grinding machine is 500 r/min, the grinding time is 14 to 18 hours, the mass ratio of disperse dyes and zirconium beads(diameter of 1 mm) is 1:10, the solid content is 40%, the mass ratio of dispersant and dried disperse dyes is 1:2. In this conditions, the liquid disperse orange 30 with MF could get the diffusivity level of 5 and its average diameter was 244.3 nm. And the liquid disperse orange 30 with SL could get the diffusivity level of 5 and its average diameter was265.5 nm.The effect of single dispersant or the ratio of formulated dispersants on the storage stability of ultra-fine liquid disperse dyes was investigated on the basis of the optimized milling process. The result showed that â'ˆ The average diameter of ultra-fine liquid disperse orange 30 prepared by PEG600 and MF mixed at the ratio of 1:2 was 242.8 nm,its centrifugal stability was 94.5%. And it also had good storage stability. â'‰The average diameter of ultra-fine liquid disperse orange 30 prepared by PEG1500, 4080 A and SL mixed at the ratio of 2:1:9 was 271.1 nm, its centrifugal stability was 96.2%. And it alsohad good storage stability. Ultra-fine liquid disperse violet 93 and ultra-fine liquid disperse blue 79 were also prepared by the two formulas and they also had excellent storage stability.In the further experiment, the result from the analysis of DSC and TG showed that the melting temperature of ultra-fine liquid disperse orange 30 either with MF or SL were lower than that of the crude dyes. It was proved that the molecules of MF and SL adsorbed on the surface of ultra-fine liquid disperse orange 30 by XPS. The result from the analysis of XRD indicated that the crystalline phase of disperse orange 30 after grinded changed slightly. The picture from AFM showed that the particles of ultra-fine liquid disperse dyes prepared by PEG1500, 4080 A and SL mixed at the ratio of 2:1:9 were uniformly distributed.Dyeing experiments with ultra-fine liquid disperse dyes was also carried out. The result indicated that they possessed high up-take percent, good building-up property as well as the excellent stability at high and low temperature. And their colours are very similar to that of the powder disperse dyes.
