Emulsifier is an important part of emulsion explosives. The quality of emulsifier is closely related to stability, explosive performance and other indicators of emulsion explosives. The excellent synthesis of sorbitan sesquioleate was studied. The product performance was improved by further study on this basis. Maleic anhydride was added in this system as coupling group to synthetic Gemini emulsifier. Every product was tested by different testing methods to evaluate the application results in emulsion explosive.The reaction temperature, reaction time, catalyst, proportion of raw materials and synthetic methods of various stages of the synthesis process were studied to get the optimum conditions of synthesis sorbitan sesquioleate. The conditions are as follows:phosphoric acid is etherification catalyst, m (phosphoric acid):m (D-sorbitol)=0.05:1,n(sorbitol):n(oleic acid)=1:1.7, etherification temperature is 155℃, etherification time is 90 min, esterification catalyst is NaOH, the amount of 0.3% (based on the starting total mass), the reaction temperature is 205℃, reaction time is 4 h. All processes are under vacuum.By univariate analysis, the optimum conditions for the synthesis of MAH-Arlacel C Gemini emulsifier as maleic anhydride is coupling group were got, the conditions are as follows: maleic anhydride ring-opening reaction temperature is 120℃, reaction time is 2.5 h; esterification stage reaction temperature is 165℃,reaction time is 4.5 h, the esterification catalyst is NaOH, in an amount of 0.5% (total material mass fraction),m (MAH):m (Arlacel C)=1:9.The two emulsifiers were both exampled by testing performance of the emulsifying power, emulsion stability and emulsion explosive matrix and other aspects of performance.The results showed that the synthesis of two emulsifiers compared with similar products have better explosive performance, storage stability, etc., with good prospects.
