High strength gun steel to its excellent mechanical properties and high temperature resistance, the corrosion characteristics in the manufacture of weapons and civilian fields has been widely used, due to the high mechanical properties of high strength gun steel, belonging to the typical difficult to machine materials. In the field of metal processing for difficult processing materials are the focus of research, so in-depth study of high strength steel cutting process and its simulation is of great significance.In this paper, the cutting mechanism of high strength steel is studied theoretically, and the chip formation mechanism and cutting equation are studied from the point of view of metal processing, which lays a solid theoretical foundation for the following experimental research. The milling force of high strength steel was studied by experiment and finite element simulation. To establish the three-dimensional geometric model based on the actual milling machining, and cutting temperature in cutting into the study content. Experiment using three to force measuring instrument of cutting parameters, tool wear, cutting temperature of high strength gun steel milling force effect, and through orthogonal experiment, the obtained data by mathematical means fitting out of high strength gun steel milling force experience formula. The geometric model of milling high strength steel was established by using the finite element analysis software, and studied the friction materials of high strength steel model, determine the chip separation criteria and heat exchange model. Through 3D simulation, analysis of the high strength steel cannon in the change rule of cutting force in the different processing parameter interval. We also study the effect of cutting temperature for cutting force. Finally, this paper also studies the influence of cutting force for surface quality, analysis of the factors influencing the surface roughness and side hardening phenomenon.The research results show that the bear range, high cutting temperature in cutting tool can reduce the cutting force; tool wear condition can greatly affect the cutting force and surface quality; corner radius and surface quality are closely related; surface rough degree and parameters is related more closely, through the simulation analysis of various factors which influence the milling force is used to guide the actual production.
