How to use and design the suitable automatic workover equipment has been the key problem to improve the efficiency of the normal workover process. This academic thesis focused on the research of the process principle of the automatic workover system, and the design of the supporting equipment used in oil wells.First, the paper introduced two goals that automatic workover system should follow: the system must have to be useful to release workers from the heavy jobs, and then the system must have to improve the total efficiency of the workover process. Based on those rules, the paper analyses the conventional workover operation process. And these operations were divided in accordance with the purpose, necessity, movement form and so on. The concept of process operation and auxiliary operation are found. And then according the analysis of the efficiency and influencing factors of normal workover operations, the paper put forward the feasible scheme to improve operating efficiency with automatic system.Then, based on the comparative analysis of the performance & working principle of the domestic and foreign advanced drilling and workover technology and equipment, the design scheme of the automatic operating system was proposed on the function level, which included two basic subsystem: the automatic hoisting system and the pipe string loading system. The hoisting mechanism was designed as a kind of chain elevator. Based on the comparative analysis of the structure, working principle and process of two different form of the chain elevator, the final design of the hoisting mechanism was found, which is called the signal chain transmission. Then detail mechanisms and components of the hoisting system were designed.At the same time, according to the automation workover process defined in the chapter 2, the paper put forward the design scheme of the independent pipe string loading system, which also included two basic subsystems: the pipe delivery unit & the automatic pipe racking system. And then the parts and mechanisms of the pipe delivery mechanism were designed. And the working principle of the automatic pipe racking system was defined. Based on that, the main mechanism and other components were designed, and then the stability and dependability were tested with the method of finite element.Finally, according to the design scheme and the main actuator of automatic workover system completed, the power transmission system in which was designed. The kinetic characteristic of the hoisting mechanism which can be used for reference was founded. Based on that kinetic characteristic, the movement and dynamics of the hoisting mechanism was found, combined with the actual load changes during the workover process, the performance requirements for power transmission components were found, and then the selection and design of power transmission scheme was finished.
