Currently, the issue of global warming due to greenhouse gases emission was repeatedly mentioned in international conferences, and received extensive attention from all sectors of the community. China’s household energy consumption is maintain growth in the past 20 years, and presents the trend of accelerating growth in the 21 th century. Household carbon emissions have become an important part of carbon emissions. China is a country with unbalanced economic development and great regional difference. Combined with the actual situation with China, studying China’s household carbon emissions with the perspective of heterogeneity is a necessary work.In this paper, we calculate the household direct and indirect energy consumption and carbon emissions of China. Then we analyze the impact factors of carbon emissions based on LMDI model. And we study China’s regional differences of economics and carbon emissions with the perspective of heterogeneity. This paper includes three parts of research. First, we calculate the household direct carbon emissions of China, then analyze the impact factors based on LMDI model, and discuss the decoupling relationship between carbon emissions and economic growth. Second, we calculate the household indirect carbon emissions based on Input-Output model, then analyze the impact factors and study the differences between direct and indirect carbon emissions. Finally, China is divided into eight regions according to economics and geography situation. Then we calculate the household direct and indirect household carbon emissions of eight regions respectively, and discuss the regional differences based on carbon emissions. The conclusion shows that: first, China’s household carbon emission shows an overall upward trend during the research period. The economic growth leads to the increase of energy consumption is the main driving factor, while the decline in energy intensity is the main cause of carbon emissions growth inhibition. Second, the developed areas of China have completed energy structure upgrading. Their main carbon emission sources have changed from coal to electricity, while it is remain coal in the developing areas. Third, the proportion of electricity generation from coal of China is significantly higher than the world average level. It leads to higher carbon emission coefficient of China’s electricity, and electricity has become a growth point of household carbon emissions. Finally, there is significant difference between each region of China. The indirect household carbon emissions of developed areas are much higher than the others. The consumption difference in living sector, transportation-communication sector is the main reason.
