Air pollution causes serious environment problems. The most important one of them is socalled Environmental acidification. Sulfides(mainly SO2) and Nitrides discharged into the atmosphere is the reason. In two ways, they penetrate into the earth’s surface: Wet deposition(Sulfide and Nitrides are penetrated into the earth through the rain) and dry deposition(Sulfide and Nitrides are absorbed by the plant and wet surface). Chinese Power generation energy is mainly thermal, Coal fired power generating unit,which have the characteristics of high coal and water consumptions, is in the majority. However, the environment pollution is one of the major problems that block the way of Sustainable development. Flue gas desulfurization is the effective way of control the pollutions caused by the Sulfides produced by the thermal power plants. And it will be a great contribution to reduce the harms caused by Environmental acidification.This 2*660MW Flue gas desulfurization project is based on the AE&E Flue gas desulfurization technology. GEDI introduced the AE&E Limestone gypsum wet flue gas desulfurization core technology in February,2006.Combined with the engineering practice, we improved the absorption tower-design technology. This project started buiding in 2009, The designing meets the thermal power plants air pollution discharge standards(GB13223-2003).The SO2 concentration of emission is 400 mg /Nm3; And still more, due to the increasingly strict environmental protection requirements,we raised the standard. The designparameter of sulfur content is 1.8%,the desulfurization rate is 96%,which led to the SO2 concentration of emission reach 110 mg /Nm3.The index significantly lower than the standard value.In this Flue gas desulfurization project, we successfully designed variable-diameter tower which is very suitable to be used in the high sulfur content and high desulfurization efficiency conditions, which is the notable feature of domestic high-capacity power plants. The innovation target : Lower the absorption tower height and the use of steel, optimize the major equipments selection and reduce the equipment quantity to save investment, reduce maintenance workload and reduce operating expenses, on the premise of keep the smoke velocity of flow, circulating fluid volume, atmosphere volume intact. This gas desulfurization pass the 168 h test run synchronously and smoothly with the main system on January 6thand May 31 st separately, in 2011. According to the feedbacks of the operation team, the system operated well and give a good economic performance since putting into operation.
