Bag filters are widely used as the dust removal equipment to recycle wood dust by the wood-processing corporations. But the wood dust explosion is easy to occur during the operation process of bag filters, which seriously threatens the safety operation of corporations. Therefore, it is great significant to design a safe and reliable dust removal device to improve the whole safety of the dust removal system.In this paper. A set of pipe-spray settling chamber of the wood dust collector is researched. The device is studied by means of design, numerical simulation, experiment and case analysis. The main content includes the structure design, parameter design, performance and application effect research of the device. A set of settling chamber with the function of intelligent spray is put forward. It can effectively and timely reduce the dust concentration in the inlet of the bag filter, and improve the safety performance and reliability of the whole system. It is well realized to improving the safety of the dust collection device in the wood-processing corporations. In this paper, the following conclusions are obtained:(1) The characteristics and the interaction between the liquid drop and the wood dust are analyzed. The particle size of dust is dispersed in 5~230 μm. The hydrophilicity of the dust is good. It can reduce the dust explosion hazard and improve the dust removal efficiency by spraying. And the efficiency of the dust removal is better when the inertial collision rate between the liquid drop and dust particles higher.(2) A set of pipe-spray settling chamber of the dust collector is put forward which is based on the theory of spray and dust reduction. The structure of chamber is designed by the traditional inertial settling chamber. The new device includes 3 pieces of baffle plates which are designed into 2 baffle settling chamber. The center baffle plate is 750 mm long. The dust collection bucket inclination angle is 70°. Three centrifugal pressure nozzles whose caliber is 1.2 mm are installed on the top of settling chamber.(3) The device design parameters are optimized by numerical simulation and analysis of performance test. The results showed that: The nozzles of 1 and 3 face the entrance and be 60° between with the vertical plane. The removal efficiency is highest when the nozzle opening all and water supply pressure is 4 MPa and the liquid drop size at about 50 μm, In the aspect of safety. The humidity is increased above 2 times. The minimum explosive concentration of dust is increased from 30 g/m~3 to 90 g/m~3. The minimum ignition temperature is increased from 474℃ to 578℃. The minimum ignition energy is increased from 50 mJ to 2200 mJ. The dust explosion hazard reduces significantly.(4) The application of the pipe-spray settling chamber of the wood dust collector is researched. in the implementation case, the dust concentration in the outlet of the settling device can be controlled under 3 g/m~3. The highest removal efficiency reached above 93% and the ventilation volume decreased 40%. But the power consumption has increased about 1.3 kw?h on average.Through the design and research of this topic. It is found that the operating condition of the bag filter is improved and the operation life of the bags is prolonged obviously. The safety and reliability of the dust removal equipment system is significantly improved by the designing and installing of the pipe-spray settling chamber.
