Due to the effects of wind and the jolt of transport vehicles, great economic loss and environment pollution are resulted during the coal storage and transport. Moreover, when the transport vehicle is traveling, it may cause a serious explosion with the blowing of coal dust. According to the survey, the traditional method of using sprinkler to suppress the coal dust doesn’t work well with most of the dust particle size of less than 10 microns. In recent years, more and more researches and applications of chemical dust-depressor show that this kind of dust-depressor is an effective method for suppressing flying dust. The existing dust suppression agent can be roughly divided into three types: wet type, adhesive type and flocculated type. When the adhesive type was sprayed onto the coal pile, it has the very big cementing power to the coal surface, forming a layer of hard shell to achieve the effect of dust suppression.In this paper, the performance of adhesive dust-depressor being used in coal storage and transportation is studied. First, polyvinyl alcohol polymer(PVA), green product corn starch with low cost and broad source, and surfactant A are selected as the main raw materials for the synthesis of bond inhibitors. The optimum formula of this adhesive dust-depressor is obtained by monomer and orthogonal test: the percentage of PVA is 1.0%, the percentage of starch is 6%, and the percentage of surfactant A is 0.3%.The experiments measure and verify the main performance of the dust-depressor. The results show that the best formulation of adhesive dust-depressor is: the viscosity is 50mPa?s, the surface tension is 30.8m N/m, and the shell strength is 27 KPa. This formulation has a high dust suppression efficiency of 95.9%. Through field experiments for the opencast coal pile, it further indicates that this kind of dust-depressor is an effective method for suppressing flying dust and it has practical significance in application.
