In recent years, the construction of breakwaters in deepwater has been moreprevalent while the coastal and ocean resources are developed and utilized. In deep seaarea, the large waves generate tremendous wave forces acting on the breakwaters, andtherefore, various new types of breakwaters have been proposed to reduce those forces. The chamfered breakwater is an improved type of vertical breakwater, thesuperstructure of which has a sloping surface on the seaward side. The angle betweenthe slope and the horizontal plane is usually taken as an acute angle (such as30°,45°).The wave crest force acting on the sloping surface of the superstructure can bedisintegrated into a horizontal component and a vertical downward component. Thevertical component of the wave force is advantageous to the stability of the breakwater. In this paper, the researches on chamfered vertical breakwater are carried out inboth experiment and numerical simulation aspects. Firstly£to study the distributioncharacter of the breakwater on the horizontal force, the vertical force of the chest walland the lifting power on the bottom can been gotten. Secondly, because of consideringthe high correlation between wave forces or moments, the reliability index and failureprobability of chamfered vertical breakwater were obtained.Based on the experimental studied, from point of numerical simulation view, thispaper researches the force of wave on chamfered vertical breakwater with used theengineering software of the numerical flume-NEWFLUME. From comparativeanalysis of the wave force, we can discover that the numerical result is relatively small, the lifting power approaches the result of experiment, the vertical force is largedifference.
