Research On Application Of PNR In Railway Ticketing And Reservation System

With China economy development and living standard improvement it’s hoped that the railway can provide more convenient, efficient, safe and comprehensive service. This sets a higher requirement for the rail passenger service. Based on the study of Airline PNR and with the background of railway application, this paper proposes the Railway PNR concept and the corresponding railway ticketing system design with the PNR as its core implementation. With this proposed solution, it will solve many issues in current railway ticketing system, such as, passenger service information missing and limited passenger self-service. In this paper, the Railway PNR is divided into three categories, PNR Master, PNR Detailed and PNR Extended, to serve different business purposes. The PNR Master is used to manage the whole journey for railway passenger; The PNR Detailed is used to collect passenger travel information and provide data for Railway Passenger Business Marketing and Decision Support Service; The PNR Extended is used to record passenger extension demand. Different type PNR is linked with PNR number, and different passenger’s PNR is associated by PNR association code and PNR authorization code. This design realizes personal ticket purchase, agent ticket purchase and group ticket purchase in real-name ticketing system. It uses PNR authorization code to protect passenger privacy in agent ticket purchase. With the combination of using these three PNR types, it provides strong and efficient support for passenger-oriented Railway ticketing system building. Meanwhile, based on PNR, this paper proposes the application process design in ticket sale (via internet and window), ticket exchange and ticket check activities, and the fuzzy ticketing concept to meet passenger diverse ticket booking needs. In the PNR design, the introduction of passenger fingerprint information makes an important role in more convenient ticket purchasing and secure ticket checking.
