The optimization and simulation of steering gear are very important in the process ofdesigning and producing automobile parts. As a key part in vehicle chassis, steering knucklehas the function of bearing the front load of the vehicle, achieving the vehicle steering andothers. The paper begins the digital design of the Motor Dump Truck loading220t steeringgear and the strength analysis, modal analysis of the steering knuckle by applying structureoptimization design method and the finite element analysis technology. This topic comes fromthe project named Design of Heavy Motor Dump Truck loading220t Steering System what isfunded by Guangzhou Electric Locomotive Co. The main work and results are as follows:First of all,Proceeding the optimization design of steering trapezoid using Matlab,Choosing the right basis steering gear dignity through the optimization design of steering gear.Ensuring the coordinating angle relation between two steering wheels to avoid or reduce thewheels Side-slip and make the steering angle of inner and the outer wheels large enough tomeet the demand of achieving the vehicle minimum steering radius.Secondly,Based on the HyperMesh software, in light of the concrete structures of thesteering knuckle, the specific steps and method to create finite element model of the knucklewere analyzed in details and build the reasonable steering knuckle model at last. Studying theforce conditions of the steering knuckle in typical dangerous situations in details and givingthe formulas of force and torque. Then, discussing the reason why the knuckle may be easilydamaged. Then receiving the cloud of stress and deformation map under typical dangeroussituations and combination situations with HyperMesh structural static analyzing module, andanalyzing the knuckle loaded situation and stress distribution.Finally,Based on studying the modal analysis theory in details, preceding the modelanalysis of the steering knuckle and calculating the vibration characteristics of the knuckle.The inherent vibration mode and frequency of the first10-orders of the steering knuckle wereobtained in the solid support state, at the same time, analyzing the modal characteristics of thesteering knuckle and laying the foundation of avoiding the flutter effectively.
