Cylindrical inflatable membrane structure has been widely used in civil andoversea because of the advantages of plan regular as well as large span and space. Inorder to ensure the stiffness and stability of the structure, cable nets which lying on thesurface of the membrane were always used to sharing loads of the membrane. Atpresent, the cylindrical inflatable membrane structure with cable have been used inengineering applications in our country, however, the theoretical study is far behindengineering practice. The study on the law of cable-membrane forces and deformationsin conditions of inner and outer pressure and cable nets is a very significant guide tothe design of air-supported membrane structures.Firstly, the mechanical behavior and deformation characteristics of the cylindricalinflatable membrane structure with cable has been studied by experimental and finiteelement analysis in this Paper. Stress characters of cable nets have been investigated bychanging inner pressure. The reliability of the finite element(FE) model has beencertificated by comparing the calculated results with the experimental data.Based on the verified FE model, the impact of the inner pressure态rise-to-spanratio and cable spacing on the cable tension and maximum membrane tension wasanalyzed. The effect of line spacing on the cable force, membrane force and the ratio ofthe cable and membrane on the condition of transverse cable and a general expressionof the inner pressure, cable-membrane stress and cable spacing was studied; the load relation of cable and membrane on the condition of orthogonal cable was also beenstudied. The formula of cable-membrane stress on the condition of orthogonal cableand cable spacing is deduced; and the change of cable anchoring force on the conditionof skew cable was studied simultaneously.Finally, the influence of the external load on the cable-membrane stress, thedeformation of the structure and anchoring force of membrane has been discussed.
