Hydraulic excavator is a kind of multi-functional machine and it is widely usedin water conservancy engineering, transportation, power engineering and mining inthe mechanical execution.It plays a very important rolein relieving the heavy manuallabor, ensuring the engineering quality, speeding up the construction speed andimproving labor productivity. Since the hydraulic excavator has the character ofvarieties, multi-function, high quality and high efficiency etc, it got the favour of theconstruction units. In this paper, the structure of a new type of face-shovel hydraulicexcavatorwith indirect-drive boom is designed and optimized in order to improve thestructure and mechanical properties.According to the equipment constitute and work characteristics of face-shovelhydraulic excavator,the Terex RH40E face-shovel hydraulic excavatorand theempirical coefficient of excavator industry, the parameter values of the excavator istentatively determined, including the related geometrical parameterof the boom, thestick and the bucket and the main working dimension. With the MATLABsoftware,modeling and simulation is done toget theenvelope diagram of theexcavating track. The main working dimension of the excavator is calculatedaccording to the envelope diagram of the excavating track.Based on the excavatingprocess with single boom cylinder or stick cylinder andthe liftingprocess with the full bucket, optimizing is done for the operating device.Therange of the optimized boom and the stick intersection angle increases. The maxdriving force of the boom cylinder, the stick cylinder and the bucket cylinderdecreases when providing the same force.Based on SOLIDWORKS software and the initial size,this paper sets up thevirtual prototype, ADAMS software was used in dynamics simulationof theexcavatingprocess with single boom cylinder or stick cylinder and the liftingprocesswith the full bucket. MATLAB software is used in the drawing of the envelopediagram of the excavating track, and the genetic algorithm is adopted to hinge pointlocation optimization of the hydraulic excavator.
