Speed is one of the feedback signals of micro turbine engine (MTE) closed-loop control system;its reliability directly affects the engine’s safety. As the speed sensor always works in hightemperature and strong vibration environment, its failure rate is higher. In order to improve thereliability and stability of the engine control system, MTE speed fault tolerant control is studied in thispaper from the perspective of engineering application. In this paper, the electronic control unit (ECU) with hardware redundancy and analyticalredundancy was designed, on the one hand ECU collected two rotor speed actual value, and on theother hand ECU obtained parsing speed value by onboard models. Added tolerant logic handlesthree-way speed value in the control algorithm, including detection, isolation and reconstruction tospeed sensor fault. To get reliable parsing speed values, a series of speed-fuel consumption steadystates and dynamic properties of the engine at some steady points in time domain within systemidentification, steady relationships and acceleration coefficients in full range within interpolationmethod and precision real-time model of the engine for climbing above within dynamic coefficientmethod are obtained in this paper. To study the effectiveness of fault tolerant algorithm and the matches between ECU and keyMET sensors and actuators, an interface simulator which can simulate the speed, temperature andother signals of the MTE sensors is developed in this paper. The simulation software with componentlevel model was written. Meantime hardware in the loop and semi-physical simulation platform basedon the interface simulator was built. Hardware in the loop and semi-physical simulation verified thevalidity of the electronic controller hardware design and fault-tolerant control algorithm. Finally, the verification of engine bed test shows that when only a single channel speed sensormalfunction or dual-channel simultaneous failure of speed sensors, MTE can maintain normaloperation. At the same time the reliability and stability of MTE was effectively improved. The testproved MTE fault tolerant controller is feasible.
