Indemnificatory housing has become one of China’s largest livelihood projects in21stcentury that providing shelter to low-income people. Promoting green design when buildingthe new indemnificatory housing is not only a good way to speed up the process of buildinggreening, but also to alleviate excessive resource consumption pressures effectively. There aremany successful ideas and practices of in foreign, but the current green indemnificatoryhousing design in China is still in its infancy. So for indemnificatory housing, it’s an urgentneed to explore suitable low-cost green building system. In a typical subtropical region city ofGuangzhou, the main research works are as follows:(1) On the investigation of national green indemnificatory housing projects, focusing ongreen technology measures in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Jiansu, including the overall layout,micro-climate regulation, building envelope energy conservation, shade muasures and so on,it shows that some measures to improve outdoor thermal environment such as overheaddesign and complex layer greening is an important way to adapt to the hot and humid climateof subtropical region.(2) Based on "Green Building Evaluation Standard" and " Guangzhou indemnificatoryhousing design guidelines ", suitable green technology of indemnificatory housing inGuangzhou area has been presented from planning and environmental design, architecturaldesign, structural design, facilities and equipment in four professional areas; and gives aportfolio strategy of one-star and two-star green building, hoping to play a role in greenbuilding design of indemnificatory housing refernce.(3) The outdoor environment of Fanghe Garden in Guangzhou has been expanded, measured for different locations and underlying surface of the micro-climate test. The testparameters are those including air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, globe temperature. And this patr at last makes comparative analysis of green buildingtechnology and environmental test result between indemnificatory housing and commercialhousing in the same area.(4) The three-dimensional non-hydrostatic climate model ENVI-met were applied tosimulate outdoor thermal environment of Fanghe Garden. The spatio-temporal dynamiccharacteristics of simulated surface-air temperature were coincident basically with theobserved results. It has been proved that ENVI-met is a reliable tool to simulate the differenturban scenarios.(5) According to the climate characteristics of Guangzhou, three kinds of optimization about outdoor thermal environment has been proposed. Three conditions including overhead, complex layer greening and watering, were simulated by ENVI-met. And the optimizationeffects were comparative analysed with the various conditions of air temperature, relativehumidity, wind speed, MRT, SET*and other parameters. The results showed that: ways ofsetting up overhead and water significantly reduced SET*value can improve ourdoor thermalenvironment; the other way some tall trees should be arranged in its place, to avoid blockingnatural ventilation.
