In China, the frequent occurrence of landslides result in significant economic losses. Thetraditional method that evaluate the stability of slope—the safety factor method, reflect theuncertainty factor with a single value, and quantify the uncertain factors. There is a bigdeficiencies in the evaluation of the stability of slopes. At present the tradional reliabilitytheory considering the uncertainty of the slope, but the lack of extensive experience inengineering practice. The paper, based on previous engineering experience points gained andrelated assumptions, analyse the reliability to aim at different types of slopes, and study riskanalysis models and accept standard. The main contents and conclusions of the paper as follow:(1) The paper analyze the main factors affecting soil slope stability analysis from bothexternal and internal factors, and summarizes the effects of various factors on slope stability.Water is the main external factors that affect slope stability, and rainfall is importantpredisposing factor. Soil parameters(c、) is the major internal factors. Meanwhile, theadvantages and disadvantages of laboratory and In situ experiments are summaried.(2) Based on the definition of reliability, the paper provide a reasonable explanation forreliability index and failure probability from the mathematics.(3) First, the paper, introduce the application of probability theory in slope from basicprobability theory. Then the slope is divided into four different categories, according toimportant of slope and the degree of known information from investigation to the operationaland monitoring stage, and achieve standardization and procedure of slope construction. Also, combined the construction design, construction, monitoring the three together in a dynamic, easy to create a dynamic feedback mechanism and reflects the full life-cycle management ofslopes.(4) Combined with four points which date from engineering experience, based onreliability theory and related assumptions, a plotted is builded which reflect the relationshipsbetween safety factor and failure probability of different types of slopes, and verify itsfeasibility and rationality in engineering. At the same time, the critical graph of slope isdrawing, according to the reliability of the safety factor theory. And the paper calculated fourcritical safety factor of the slope using the graphical method, calculate the cricital safety factorof four types slopes. The method assess the stability of different types of slopes with rapidlyand resonable.(5) Considering the time value, the model of economic risk analysis of slope from both static and dynamic, achieve the combination of quantitative and qualitative method of riskanalysis. For untreated slope, the paper give three acceptable risk from personal, social andeconomic aspects for one landslide. For the processed slope, according to the slope category, the paper give four corresponding risk accept standard.(6) Through two project cases, the reliability analysis methods and risk analysis theoryand method are applied in the project decision and illustrate the feasibility of the theory, andthe important in engineering decision.
