For the overall design of ship, which involves maneuverability, rapidity, capaci-tive, seakeeping and other aspects, is a long design cycle, covering a wide range ofcomplex systems engineering design problems. With the theory of the structure, hy-drodynamics, control continue to improve and the rapid development of computertechnology, people are able to adopt a more accurate finite element model for simula-tion and performance prediction of various disciplines, however, the development ofthe overall design of the ship has been stagnant. As a result, the theories and methodsfor the ship design are obsolete. Although these theories and methods have played anextremely important role for the development of ship design technology in the pastfew decades. Splitting the coupling effects between the various disciplines, cannottake full advantages of the fruits of development disciplines, inefficient,time-consuming and costly, this series of inherent defects determines they can nolonger meet the needs of modern ship design.Eighties of the last century, the rise of multi-disciplinary design optimization inthe aerospace field, is a an integrated design methodology to address the aforemen-tional challenge. By fully explore and exploit their synergies between the various dis-ciplines of mutual coupling generated by the project, it will provide the best overallperformance for the product design.Relative to design for aircraft, rockets and other aerospace structural, the com-plexity of design for ship is great. Huge achievements will be got by introducing theMDO to ship design.Core content of the thesis is application of collaborative optimization to ship de-sign, the main work include the following aspects:i. Summarized the shortcomings of traditional methods for naval architectureand ocean engineering. The purpose of this study was presented. Described the defini-tion, characteristics, development situation of MDO. Then the application of MDO innaval architecture and ocean engineering were reviewed, and the organizational ii. design optimization problem that with a cost system and four performancesub-disciplines and a satisfied optimization result was also achieved.
