With the implementation of China’s western development strategy, the construction offreeway in western mountain regions came into a rapid period, the traffic mile increasesrapidly, which greatly promoted the economic development of the western regions.Geological conditions in the western mountainous regions are complex and changing withsteep cross-slope and interlaced gully, which lead routes pass through valleys and hills, highfilling and deep digging are difficult to avoid, bridge and tunnel connecting became more andmore. Highway Traffic Safety Administration is facing a more severe situation in the newsituation of freeway construction with large-scale development of mountainous areas and theincreasing construction. To conduct this study on the safety evaluation of the westernmountain freeway design is helpful to find out and reduce security risks in the design,improve road safety, reduce waste of money.On the basis of literature review, this paper first discussed the key segments of highwaysin western mountain areas, and then put forward its evaluation content and method;emphatically analyzed the operating speed coordinative evaluation method, listed the safetyevaluation basis of highway construction drawing design, and then determine the securityevaluation content of highway construction drawing design of the western mountain regions;According to the characteristics of the western mountain freeway, pointed out the keysegments of the western mountain freeway, and carried out researches on these key sectionsabout the design safety evaluation of freeway respectively; Applied the research results to thesafety evaluation of highway construction drawing design of A1Contract Section of Xi’an-Man chuan guan freeway, and it demonstrated the practicality of the research results.
