Tanker vehicles as important logistics equipments, have a very wide application in themotor carrier industry. At present, the mainly used conveyances in China for thetransportation of cement, fly ash and other particulate materials are carbon steel tankervehicles. The Bulk powder goods tanker is one type of carbon steel tanker vehicle and it’smainly used for the transportation of bulk cement, limestone powder, electrical and fly ashpowder. This conveyance which has already a very wide application is more advantageous inthe economization of resources, the protection of environment and the reduction of laborintensity, but in the same time, it has a high fuel consumption and low coefficient of massutilization,there are some experiments show that the weight of the tanker vehicle has a greatrelationship with these problems. By the contrast test, under the same situation, when theweight of entire vehicle reduced10%, the fuel consumption can be reduced by6%to8%.Therefore, to bring down the vehicle weight can effectively improve the energy performance,the environmental performance and reducing the fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. Sothe lightweight design for the carbon steel tanker vehicle has an important significance for thenational economy development.After introducing the typical working condition, the traditional design and calculationmethods of the carbon steel tanker vehicle, the finite element model with CAD/CAE wasestablished is the paper. Through the structural strength analysis, the weak position and thedanger position of the tanker structure was found, and then these positions were reinforced.However, for many paces which have a big strength margin. The author used the optimizationsoftware to optimize the design for the tanker. The result show that the weight of the tankerhas been reduced by8.9%and the structure strength can meet the requirements by checkingits structure strength.
