Loess is a kind of soil with special material composition and has a unique formstructural characteristics, and has a wide distribution in China, especially in the westernregion, in recent years, with the continuous efforts of western development, investment isincreasing in infrastructure, so it is has more practical significance to study the deformationcharacteristics of loess, and with an important guiding role in the construction of practicalengineering. This paper studied equal strain K-zero consolidation of the remodeling saturated loessand the remodeling unsaturated loess under the condition of continuous loading andunloading with the different loading rates using the K-zero consolidationapparatus, which is the confined the continuous and hierarchical loading designed anddeveloped by Chang’an University. The stress-strain behavior, the changing rules of the voidratio, the degree of consolidation and the static lateral pressure coefficientK0have beensystem analyzed of the two kinds of loess under the different loading rates.Through the analysis of the test result, the following conclusions can be drawn:(1) The deformation of the loess including elastic deformation and plastic deformationfrom the stress-strain curve, and the elastic deformation is small.(2) In the loading and unloading process, the variation of the void ratio, the degree ofconsolidation of the soil samples, the strain and so on have a connection with the loading andunloading rates. The loading rate is bigger, the decline rate of the soil pore is slower, theaxial strain increases more quickly, the rate of consolidation of soil is morequickly, the static lateral pressure coefficient increasing slightly faster.(3) By comparison of the saturated loess and the unsaturated loess, it can be seen thatthe test parameters of unsaturated loess are affected smaller by loading rates.
