With the continuous construction and development of urban rail transit network, theurban rail transit place an increasingly significant role in passenger distribution of inner city.As an important component of urban rail transit system, the subway transfer hub can realizethe transfer not only between different transport routes but also different transportation modes,which can also provide favorable conditions for organic coordination and continuousoperation between various urban passenger transportation subsystems. However, the largenumbers of passenger distributed in the subway transfer hub will cause internal congestion,resulting in the increased transfer time delay and the decreasing capacity and level of service,which will have a significant further impact on passenger walking safety and environment insubway transfer hub. Therefore, study on pedestrian traffic organization and optimization insubway transfer hub will be of great significance in evacuating passenger flow timely,improving the efficiency of traffic organization, as well as protecting the passenger flowsafely and orderly operation.Firstly, the pedestrian behavioral characteristics in subway transfer hub are analyzedbased on the definition and characteristics of metro transfer hub from both of the macroperspective and micro perspective. And at the same time according to passenger flow processand basic data (such as pedestrian flow, speed, density, and space occupancy) comes fromsurvey in North Street subway transfer hub in Xi’an Metro, SPSS programming software isused to make curve fitting in order to study the pedestrian traffic flow characteristic in transferhub. The quantitative analysis of function relationships between pedestrian flow, speed,density, and space occupancy can provide data support for the urban rail traffic managementdepartments to take timely and effective control strategies. Secondly, the internal passengertransfer time calculation model is established according to subway transfer hub pedestriantraffic flow analysis. And combined with the principles and procedures of organization andoptimization, analysis and research on traffic organization measurements can be achievedfrom the facility environment, information environment and the operating environment.Finally, taking North Street subway transfer hub in Xi’an Metro as an example, the pedestrian traffic organization and optimization program is proposed. And with the use of VISSIMsimulation software, we can establish a simulation model to evaluate this optimizationprogram.
