The automobile which has developed for130years, now as the most common mean oftransport has played an integral role in the freight transport and passenger traffic. With thepopularity of automobiles, more attentions are put to the safety issues of automobiles in allaspects. The safety of cars is related to people’s lives and property safeties, so people’srequirements on indexes such as the safeties are getting higher and higher.Among the many complex structures in automobiles, the frame of the vehicle is the basicpart by which most other assemblies fix their positions. The main function of the frame is tosupport and connect all parts of the vehicle together, and to subject to various loads frominside and outside the vehicle. Nowadays, most passenger cars and buses use frameless bodies, while the truck still use separate frames to support the whole structures of the vehicle. In this paper, a frame of a medium truck is studied. First we establish thethree-dimensional structure diagram of the frame by software CATIA. Then Hypermesh isused to do cell divisions with the finite element method as the pre-processing step. Finally, depending on the limit conditions ANSYS is used to do the static structure analysis and modalanalysis of the frame. From the calculating results, we can tell from the breaking points andfracture areas under limit conditions. Improvements are given to corresponding fracturelocations, in order to facilitate the further development and products perfection in the future.
