The vehicle handling and stability performance consists of two parts, the ability ofcorrectly tracking under driver’s will and the ability of direction keeping against disturbances.It is a critical factor affecting the driving safety of vehicles. Especially in the manufacture ofhigh-speed cars, the vehicle handling and stability is the mainly criterion in vehicleperformances evaluation. And how to design a car with good handling and stabilityperformance is a key problem for all researchers.Simulation technology is being used more and more widely in the field of engineering.With the development of multi-body dynamics, virtual prototype technology was applied tostudy the vehicle handling and stability performance.This paper according to the relative motion relation between the suspension componentsand parts of parameters, a CAR was established based on software module of ADAMS/CARof macpherson independent front suspension kinematics simulation model, and the kinematicssimulation analysis was carried out on the front suspension, the analysis of the suspensionperformance parameters change rule in the car.Furthermore whole vehicle model has been built based on ADAMS, which include themodels of front suspension, rear suspension, steering, wheels, power, brake and body. Basedon the controllability and stability test procedure for automobiles, GB/T6323-86, take Returnability test, Steering efforts test procedure, Steady static circular test procedure. And analyzethe effects that the horizontal location of orthocenter, the height of gravitational center and thestructural parameter of front suspension bring to the vehicle handling and stability.In short, multi-body system dynamics software-MSC.ADAMS provides a effective toolfor vehicle handling stability study. With the continuous development of the vehicle dynamicsand computer simulation technology, virtual prototyping technology, with multi-body systemdynamics as its core, will play a greater role in the vehicle dynamics and design.
