Development Of Bus Rapid Transit Systems Analysis In Xi’an

In recent years, with the development of social economy and the enlargement of cityscale, it makes the urban traffic congestion and environment pollution being more and moreserious that increasing traffic demand, rising vehicle holdings and the lag of development ofurban transport system. City traffic faces increasingly severe challenges. Many cities aretrying to find ways to ease urban congestion problems. Moreover, developing bus rapid transitsystem becomes one of the important measures to ease the congestion. BRT (Bus RapidTransit) is a convenient and rapid way of public transportation that using improved publictransport vehicles to operate on the public transportation special-purpose road, and keepingthe characteristics of rail transit and the flexibility of common bus.Firstly, this paper introduces the bus rapid transit system of representative city. On thebasis of analyzing the development condition of bus rapid transit system at home and abroadto sum up experience. And the paper analyzes the characteristics of bus rapid transit system.Secondly, this paper analyzes the traffic problems of Xi’an and the necessity of constructionof bus rapid transit system. Then, the paper analyzes the scheme of the line BRT1of Xi’anbeing planned to carry on the preliminary planning design, such as, BRT station design,choice of vehicles, special-purpose road and so on. Finally, the paper put forward strategicsuggestions to develop the BRT system.
