Research On Urban Public Transport System Based On The Theory Of Sustainable Transport

In recent years, with the advance of urbanization, the number of urban population has increased dramatically. At the same time, the expansion of urban land scope led to the rapid development of automobile industry, which result in a series of urban transport problems. The construction of traditional transport system have not considered environmental and social factors, so the transport network in several cities are unreasonable and the road resources could not be fully used. Sustainable urban transport emphasize the balance between transport advancement and economic progress, social harmonious and environmental protection, which can help to release traffic problems and promote urban development. Public transport system is not only a major part of urban transport system, but also a key to realize sustainable transport. However, there are some problems of current urban public transport system in China. Therefore, detailed researches about how to construct urban public transport system should be carried out.Based on current researches, this paper firstly introduces the basic composition of transport system and the main technological indicators. It compares the similarities and differences between deferent public transport tools, which are speed, passenger capacity, investment cost and the impact on land use. Then, it discusses the relationship between the construction of public transport system and cities’development. It intend to discover common questions in Chinese urban public transport systems.In order to make up the deficiencies of public transport systems, the third chapter reviews urban public transport priority strategies and measures, and it proposes comprehensive targets of Chinese public transport. Afterword, this chapter demonstrates the importance of public transport priority strategies in urban progress with two cases(Singapore and Curitiba), which can also be a mirror in Chinese public transport development.Chapter four provides background information about Hefei, current traffic structures, and residents travel behaviors through field researches, literature reading, questionnaires and interviews. The data derived from these research methods is presented and analyzed in detail, which is used to put forward pubic transport issues in Hefei. Then, some recommendations are presented in chapter five to solve Hefei’s transport problems, which includes optimized strategy of public transport network, sustainable development strategy of regular buses and mass transit and suggestions on traffic policy-making as well. The result of this research can provide a theoretical basis and reference to Hefei government to establish transport planning and regulate transport projects.
