In recent years, urbanization in China has reached an unprecedented level, resulting in an escalation of conflicts between urban development and protection ofriver ecosystems. Cases of destruction of river ecosystems and deterioration of riverlandscapes are abundant. Faced with these harsh facts, how to bring about a sustaineddevelopment of river ecosystems forms one of the globally concerned issues. In order to achieve the sustainability in the development of urban river ecosystems,it becomes necessary to introduce and take Green Infrastructure (GI) as the basicstrategy of landscape design. Starting with basic theories of GI, the thesis analyzes thestatus quo of research and implementation of river landscape design home and abroad, revealing an unsatisfactory situation of urban river landscape. Then in recognition of thevital relationships between the function of green infrastructure and the constituents ofriver landscape, GI-based designs of urban river landscape are discussed andinvestigated. The thesis explores the components of river landscape from four differentdimensions, namely constructing urban layout, regulating rainfall and flood, developingenvironment hygiene, and improving landscaping quality. On this basis, the problemsconcerned with the river landscaping in Shenzhen International Low Carbon City arepointed out and solutions are proposed with the support of a number of successfuldesigns. From the perspectives of GI, this study hopes to be applicable in river landscapedesign in Shenzhen International Low Carbon City, and to play a predictive role ingreen infrastructure construction in China. It also aims to call attention to new conceptsof river landscape design, promote sustained development of ecosystems, and fosterresearch and innovation in river landscape design.
