After puting into operation, the rail system inevitably have an affect on the regular public transit system along the rail lines. To avoid unnecessary competitive between these two traffic modes, it is obliged to adjust the bus routes. The adjustment of regular public transit routes along urban rail transit includes the adjustment of existing routes and the optimization of feeder bus routes. The studies on these questions are not based on the spatial analysis of these two traffic modes, and the established models are limited. The main contents of this paper are as follows:Firstly this paper researches the relationship between regular public transit and rail transit. Starting from the attraction for passengers of the two traffic modes, this paper analyzes the relatonship between regular public transit system and rail system when coliner, and on this basis the coordination principle and the fundamentals of regular public transt system along the rail lines is discussed. This laid the foundations for the following studies.Secondly this paper researches the adjustment method of exitng routes. Combining with updated target and constraints this study takes qualitative study as primary means while quantitative as secondary one. The proposed methods are based on the spatial analysis between these two traffic modes.Thirdly this paper discusses the optimization of feeder bus routes along rail lines which is based on site selection and routes’ layout. The thesis sets up muti-goal model with minimum travel time and maximum feeder bus routes, and uses genetic algorithms to solve the model. Matlab program is used in order to implement the algorithm. At last using urban transit line1in Ningbo to illustrate the model. Conbining the contents above some improvements are suggested.
