The Study Of The Ximing Temple In Chang’an Of Tang Dynasty

Buddhism flourished in Chang’an of tang dynasty and Buddhist temple appearedin nearly every corner in the city. Ximing temple is one of the most representativetemples in Chang’an. In recent years, most of the achievements are concentrated onthe name and the position study of the temple.The study from the view of thearchitecture and architectural history on the temple needed to be strengthened.Basedon this starting point, further studies will be made on Ximing temple on the basis ofprevious studies. Ximing temple is the main study target on the base of study of thetang dynasty buddhist culture and the buddhist temple. Ximing temple was one ofnational sacrificed monasteries in the tang dynasty,the temple for keeping imperialmade scriptures and the center of the Buddist culture. The temple is located in thesouthwest corner of yan kang fang in Chang’an city which is around the Baimiaovillage in Xi’an today.This paper starting from studying the influence of theintroduction of Buddhism on Chinese architecture, by studying the impact fromBuddhism on the buildings of each period, in which the characteristics of the templein Tang dynasty is the main point.teh next is the main part of the paper: first of all,starting from the literature, study the history of the temple and its found time,so thatthe comparison and confirmation could be made to find more clues about Ximingtemple.Carding of the position、environment and the Lifang around Ximing templecould be done according the literature and archaeological report of Ximingtemple.then taking the characteristics of the Ximing temple and Tangchang’antemple buildings as the main object. the study of Chang’an temple buildings andXiming temple can be achieved through comparison study of the parts of thesebuildings,in which there are door of the temple、walls、Buddhism tower、bell tower、wind room and so on.finally, analyzes several important factors affectingthe layout of buddhist temple so that the materials for studying the Ximing templecould be collected from the sideways.Finally, with all the above research results,from the archaeological report and combined with other related information, thetemple history, location, layout, size, shape, can be all summarized. On this basis,performing the recovery of its main spatial layout and the environment, study thecommonness and characteristics of the Buddhist temple space. In the more specificway, the characteristics of Tangchang’an temple buildings could be grasped.
